It takes 2 hours for your PS4 controller batteries to be fully charged on average. However, it only takes this long when your battery doesn’t have any charge. If you using your controller as it is charging it will take around 2.5 hours as the battery is being used whilst it is on.

Is It Safe to Charge and Use My PS4 Controller While Gaming?

There’s nothing wrong with using your PS4 Controller while you have it plugged in. It’s safe to charge and use your PS4 Controller. However, it can cause a drop in your battery’s lifespan and make it longer to charge, but It will take years before your battery’s lifespan drops.

Some say that they were designed for “charge and play.” However, I don’t entirely agree with this since it has a little way of shortening a battery’s life span.

Most people who believe they were designed to follow the “charge and play” principle got the idea from the Xbox 360’s “charge and play” kit.

When you aren’t using your controllers, ensure that you are charging them. Doing that will reduce the number of times you need to plug them in when playing a video game.

However, if your battery drops in while you’re in that gaming mood, you can charge while playing for a few hours,

How to Tell If Your PS4 Controller Is Fully Charged?

Press and hold the PS button to see if the PS4 has three bars showing full controller charge. While the system is in rest mode, the light bar slowly blinks orange. When charging is complete, the light bar turns off.

The various colors of the light bar can be very tricky. Before you’re able to figure out the meaning of each, it may take longer than usual. However, it doesn’t have to be so challenging. Here’s a PlayStation guide that can help your way around the light bar displays. The typical light bar displays include:

  • No light bar color – Full Battery

Do PS4 Controller Batteries Die?

PS4 controller batteries are capable of dying. They are made out of lithium-ion batteries. Research shows that lithium-ion cells don’t last forever. Just like every other battery, they are capable of running down. Sometimes, they get so bad that they need to be replaced

If you’re looking for a scientific explanation for this, I will give it to you. PS4 controller batteries can die because of two reasons:

  • High temperatures
  • High charge level

My major worry comes in when you charge it “only” when you use them. Please try plugging your PS4 Controller in when you’re not using them as well.”
