Xbox One X accessories and games are future compatible with Xbox Series X&S and Microsoft will support the Xbox One X for years into the new console’s lifespan. Xbox One X is capable of true 4K 60FPS gaming with an Ultra HD Blue-Ray Player and will drop in price with the release of Xbox Series X/S .

The Xbox One X is still an excellent gaming machine years after it’s release, I will explain the reasons why like Microsofts promised backwards compatibly across all games and accessories and how this generation will still be supported years into the new consoles life span.

Why The Xbox One X Is Not Obsolete

Xbox One Has Full Forwards Compatibility

Every accessory for your Xbox One X, no matter if it’s a headset or a controller will work on the new Xbox series consoles! So cool right?

Not only that but games like Halo Infinite and Hellblade 2 which are Xbox Series X/S launch titles are even playable on the original 2013 Xbox One!

Let alone the ultra-powerful Xbox One X. Although from 2022 Microsoft will start creating games exclusively for the Xbox Series X/S but until then every game will be cross platform.

See an interview with games business publication MCV with Microsoft internal development boss Matt Booty(yes that’s his name haha) said Microsoft is not planning to have any next-generation exclusives soon.

As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games — sort of like PC — will play up and down that family of devices,” Booty told MCV. “We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [the next-gen Xbox] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.”

Microsoft understands consumers like you and me don’t want to buy a console only to have it obsolete a few years after purchase.

If you buy Halo Infinite on the Xbox One X you automatically get Halo Infinite for the Xbox Series X! So cool from Microsoft right, I doubt Sony would do the same.

The controller that comes with the Xbox Series X/S uses the same wireless protocol introduced in the existing Xbox One architecture, this applies to all accessories so every accessory from the Xbox One 2013 library up until now will still be usable!

Every game you buy on the Xbox One X will look and play better than ever if you decide to upgrade a few years down the line for an Xbox Series X, making the Xbox One X a very attractive option.

Xbox One X Has Full Backwards Compatability

All previous Xbox generation backward-compatible games(see the list here) are playable on the Xbox One X! A lot of games are Xbox One X enhanced giving them beautiful detail, excellent performance, and better frame rates for smooth gaming! See the complete list here.

Unlike the PS4 that cannot play PS1-PS3 games, the Xbox One X allows you to play over 600 Xbox games across 2 gaming generations! In better quality and resolution than ever before. For a complete list take a look here.

If you have any Xbox 360 or Xbox games lying around somewhere in your house buying a Xbox One X is the perfect opportunity to dust the cobwebs and starts gaming again! This increases the longevity of the console as already you might have dozens and dozens of fantastic titles to play.

Better still is the Xbox One X gives you access to Xbox Game Pass the best deal in gaming(see more about it here), it’s a Netflix subscription that gives access to over 100 high-quality AAA games including every Microsoft first-party studio game like Halo Infinite or Forza being playable on launch.

As the next generation consoles are more like upgrading your PC since they are based on the same console architecture all the new Xbox Series X/S games will be available on Game Pass for your Xbox One X so don’t think you will miss out on anything.

Xbox One X Will Drop-In Price

As Microsoft has discontinued the Xbox One X when the newer consoles release the prices of the Xbox One X will sharply drop. As if they stay a similar price what incentive would anyone have in buying an Xbox One X?

Despite releasing in 2017 the Xbox One X is still a fantastic console capable of true 4K 60 FPS unlike the graphically inferior PS4 Pro with an Ultra HD Blue Ray player and 6 Teraflops GPU. That is NO slouch now and was amazing technology for when it first released.

The Xbox Series X is an upgrade the Xbox One X and a massive one retails for $499 so the Series X has to be at least $100-$200 cheaper for there to even be a choice.

On Ebay will be your best bet for picking up an Xbox One X for a bargain price, as everyone will sell their Xbox One X since they are upgrading it for a Series X. These prices were before the Series X release.

If you can get an Xbox One X for around $250-$300 I still think that is a great deal, You could purchase an Xbox Series S for that price range at $299 but if you want to play Xbox One X enhanced games you will be disappointed.

A big selling point of the Xbox One X is playable Xbox 360 titles at a enhanced 4K resolution such as Red Red Redemption and Final Fantasy XIII but with the Xbox Series X these games will run at a regular 720p resolution a big difference.

Get an Xbox One X/ Series X if playing backwards compatible games at the highest performance is important to you.
